Review: I generally thought this was a satisfying ending to the series. There wasn't a whole lot of lose ends hanging around and overall, the ending was good. I have to agree with some others though that it seemed a little bit repetitive. Hiding out, almost getting caught, running, repeat. However, this really didn't bother me too much. What happened between each was different each time and made it interesting.

For about 3/4 of the book, they are still on the run. However in the begin, they experience the loss of two of the group. This definitely makes Kae feel incredibly guilty going on without them. We see them cycle through cars, and even using a tractor to get farther at one point! I thought that was interesting. You definitely would not feel like a tractor is the fastest, least visible form of transportation to use at a time like this. But they had to take what they could get. They also had to get creative with when they traveled. Only at night with the lights covered to blend into the darkness, in the depths of a forested back-road to hide during the day and not be seen from a distance.

The Wardens (bad guys) also got more creative with trying to find Kae and the group. Not only did they seem to have larger amount of people searching for them, they also had freaking helicopters!!! I was not expecting that one bit. You'd think with so many people getting sick and dying there wouldn't be very many pilots left around to fly them. But of course, somehow the bad guys got a hold of the few that seemed to be left. What's worse is that for a short amount of time, they found and captured Kae and the group. Luckily the vaccine was hidden and not captured. We learned however, that the leader of the Warden's, Michael, was actually in law enforcement before the virus turned the world upside down. This made it easier for me to understand how he had access to helicopters and pilots. It just makes you wonder how he went from being a cop to working with people who seem to be criminals and will kill on a whim. Its the exact opposite of what he used to stand for.

One thing I wasn't the biggest fan of was Leo. He seemed to put down Kae a lot because she wasn't acting like the sweet innocent girl she used to be. She became the leader and made a lot of tough decisions and he was constantly guilt tripping her for those decisions. And then even though she recently lost Gav she suddenly is all lovey dovey with Leo and acting like her and Gav never happened. I'm sorry. I didn't like it. That relationship happened way to suddenly after Gav died and it was kind of like it was being rushed to happen before the story was over.

I was not exactly expecting the ending, but overall, it was probably Kae's best choice. Making both sides, the CDC and the Wardens work together to have both parts of the vaccine and to get the vaccine to as many people who needed it rather than just those who fit the "good person" status made by the doctors at the CDC.

4 1/2 Stars!
