First, the virus took Kaelyn’s friends. Then, her family. Now it’s taken away her home.

But she can't look back—the life she once had is gone forever.

A deadly virus has destroyed Kaelyn’s small island community and spread beyond the quarantine. No one is safe. But when Kaelyn finds samples of a vaccine in her father's abandoned lab, she knows there must be someone, somewhere, who can replicate it. As Kaelyn and her friends head to the mainland, they encounter a world beyond recognition. It’s not only the “friendly flu” that’s a killer—there are people who will stop at nothing to get their hands on the vaccine. How much will Kaelyn risk for an unproven cure, when the search could either destroy those she loves or save the human race?

Megan Crewe's second volume in the Fallen World trilogy is an action-packed journey that explores the resilience of friendship, the ache of lost love, and Kaelyn’s enduring hope in the face of the sacrifices she must make to stay alive.

Review: I definitely liked this one more than the first. This one picked up the pace and definitely put our group of characters in more difficult situations than before! If you were so-so about wanting to read this because of the first one being kind of slow I would totally suggest you do. Its much better. So small spoiler here. But Meredith survives thanks to getting some of Kae's blood in the last book! I was so so excited about that!!! It just would have massively sucked if she had died as well.

So in this book Kae, Gav and the rest of their group decide they need to go to the mainland to try and find someone who can replicate the vaccine. The only problem is, they all didn't want to go. But their decision was made up for them when out of nowhere someone came and bombed the island! So the group set off on the mainland searching for someone in one of the big cities who might be able to help them. They had a long and interesting journey. They had car problems (mostly people messing with their cars so they couldn't leave, or not finding one that worked, or their cars disappearing all together), were getting chased by psychos with guns trying to kill them for the vaccine. It was just bad! They spent most of their time hiding, running or trying not to get sick.

I did find it interesting that we saw some rotation with who stayed in the group. We saw two who started out with the group stay behind at an outpost with good people, and then two others join the group later on.

I thought it was incredibly awesome that we found out Kae's brother survived! Unfortunately, he's had to weave himself into a group of bad people to survive. He does his best to help and warn Kae when he gets the chance. It sucks the group he is with is also the very same group that is hunting and trying to kill his sister! I also hated that we met a girl who seemed innocent but then turns out to be working for the same group. Despite the fact she ends up allying with Kae, I still don't know completely if we should trust her yet.

I'm definitely excited to see how this story ends!

4 Stars!
