What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic’s wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic’s highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country’s most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths—until the day June’s brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family’s survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias’s death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.

Review: This was like the best book I could have possibly read to end 2012. Ya. I read it on New Years Eve but didn't get around to the review until now. Lol. I cant believe I waited so long to read this. It is fantastic! Though I have to admit that I'm glad I just read it so I don't have to wait too long for the sequel! June and Day! These two are seriously awesome lead characters! I loved reading from their two perspectives! They came from such different lives. June grew up with the wealthy. She's the Republic's prodigy, the only one known to have passed the Trials with a perfect score. Day on the other hand, is the Republic's most wanted criminal (like the description above says). He failed his Trial and was sent to a "labor camp." But as we find out. There's no such thing as the "labor camps." They come to met each other when Day is accused of killing June's brother and goes undercover to find Day. Though what June finds isn't the criminal she's expecting.

I thought this book was great! It really showed just how much your so cold "government" hides from you. June never doubted the Republic until Day gave her a reason to. He insisted that he only hit June's brother in the shoulder with his knife, he was sure of it, and that lead June to investigate his claim due to the off feeling she was getting about the Republic. Good thing she did. Because she discovered that Day was telling the truth and she then uncovered all the stuff the Republic did. I was appalled at the lengths the Republic went to. Infecting its own people with the Plague, killing off their own citizens when they found out about that, and worst of all, what they did to Day. Day supposedly failed his trial. So he was shipped off to a "labor camp." But there was no camp. Instead the Republic used those that failed the Trials to experiment on. They experimented on them until they killed them from all the experiments. And thats what they did to Day. Except Day didn't die. His heart stopped for a bit, but restarted which then lead Day to his secret life of crime and living while no one knew he was still alive. That... That is just horrible. I can see why he made a mockery out of them when he could. June uncovered though that Day didn't fail his trial, he passed it with a perfect score like her. So why did they say he failed??? I was shocked with all this information we find out.

So I was very happy that June decided to help Day escape after learning the truth about the Republic. He really didn't have any help besides her. I was also happy June learned the truth and decided to pick the right person to work with instead of continue to be lied to. I was also very happy that they were actually able to escape with all that had happened. They were lucky to get away. I was really sad though that Day's brother was killed in Day's place (because Day was supposed to be killed). That shows you though how much the brothers looked alike and how the Republic didn't thoroughly do their job in making sure it was Day they had. I'm really looking forward to seeing where Day & June's story goes next!!

5 Stars!
