When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.
Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.
Review: So I finally see why everyone loves this book. There's four main components I found to loving this book; Paris, Love, Good vs. Evil & Sexy Frenchmen. Hahaha. Ok, so let me start off by saying I'm part french so it was really nice to see the setting be Paris and to have the french language in the book. I also ate a croissant while I was reading this (purely unintentional, I just happened to grab one when I wanted a snack). Anyways, Paris and Frenchmen. I loved Paris being the setting. I enjoyed learning little bits about their culture and I absolutely loved the french language being in the book. I am part french but I'm not as fluent as I'd like to be in french but I absolutely adore the language. My fave saying from the book was "mon ange." My angel. Frenchmen... I find Frenchmen so sexy!!!! I don't know if its because of the fact I'm part french or not but every time I even heard a slight description of a hot french guy in the book I giggled like a school girl. I also enjoyed the love between Kate and Vincent. You know their love for each other is deep after how they felt being apart.
The revenants... Cant leave out that massive piece of the storyline. I really really enjoyed learning about them. Obviously I like the good revenants over the bad. I love how they sacrifice themselves to save others and come back and do it again and again. I find it interesting that the revenants feel this pull to die whether they want to or not. I also found the way they come back interesting. The whole 3 day thing. Thats all I'll spill on that. If you wanna find out what happens during the 3 days go read the book for yourselves. I'm not gonna spoil everything. It is also interesting how they come back at a certain age.
I love Kate and Vincent together! I loved how Kate seemed to get out of her depression over her parents when she starts seeing Vincent. Which is also why I found it absolutely heart wrenching when both Vincent and Kate were depressed and inconsolable. You could tell by how hard it was not being with each other just how much they do love each other. I was overjoyed when they got back together. I was even happier and semi shocked that Vincent was willing to fight the urge to die all the time so that they could be together and they could have as close to a normal relationship as possible. That right there is love. I loved how happy they are together. Even through the words on the pages it shines very brightly. Amy Plum did an amazing job at writing this book!
Overall I enjoyed the book. It was a pleasant change from all the other undead things I read about. Lol. I cant wait for the next book to come out. I definitely suggest this book to others.
The French language just sounds so much more romantic than English. Wish I could understand it lol. This book looks really good, and i'm glad you enjoyed it. Kate and Vincent sound like they have a beautiful relationship. Really looking forward to reading this book myself! great Review!

Wish I had shared the enjoyment you had for this read. It had just way too much unbelievable romance for my taste. I did really like the revenants though, they were super cool!
