Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.
Sometimes life-ending.
Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.
Review: OMG! An amazing sequel to Beautiful Creatures! Ok, first of all, I really really hated how Lena pulled away from Ethan. It was killing me! I hated seeing Ethan so sad! I hated that Lena blamed herself for her Uncle Macon's death! It sucked so badly watching Lena go darker because of it. She also said Ethan would never understand when he honestly understood more than she gave him credit for. Ethan! Gosh, we learned so much about him in this book! Like how he is the Wayward and has a connection in some way to the Casters, just like his mom did (and OMG! his moms story with Macon!) I was also really surprised that other members of his family were somehow involved in the Caster world.
I cant believe Lena ran off with that guy! I'm so happy Ethan went after her though. It shows just how much he loves her and how much hes willing to risk for her. I was especially happy he went after her after we found out she still hadn't been claimed but that her mother and Abraham were planning on calling her Claiming Moon to get her to join them. I loved what happened when Lena claimed herself though. One eye green, one eye gold, both dark and light. Which made me happy because it was much more like Lena's true self! I also found Ethan's connection to Macon's memories really odd! I mean I didn't understand why he was able to access Macon's memories until near the end! And Macon!!! He wasn't dead, just trapped in the arclight. I cant believe Ethan's mom put him in it, I didn't know spirits (or what ever she is could do that). And Link! OMG! Hes not just a human anymore!!! But more importantly, at the very end, WHAT DID RIDLEY DECIDE AT THE END!?!?!?!?!?!?! I'm going nuts not knowing!
