Hey everyone! Today I have the pleasure of welcoming Rebecca McKinnon, author of The Refuge Trilogy to the blog as part of the Cantrip Blog Tour! So without further ado lets welcome Rebecca!
In my experience, authors tend to be creatures of habit. Not necessarily in the main aspects of their lives, but in what they need while they write.
Compared to some authors, my quirks are small. (Hee-hee! Some of them might think they're normal and I'm way out there!)
Do I listen to music? Um, sometimes. But if I do, it can't have lyrics. If it's classical, it has to be something I don't know very well, or I'll be to busy singing along with the viola part. Generally speaking, though, I don't get to have music. I don't even get silence. What I get is movies or TV shows my kids like in the background. And let me tell you, some of those are really distracting!
Unfortunately, I also tend to eat when I'm writing. If I'm stuck on a part, I go look in the pantry, hoping to find inspiration hiding between the boxes of cereal.
When I'm writing dialogue, I get really caught up in it. I don't like to be interrupted, because then I lose the flow. Now, I'm not saying my dialogue never needs works, it's just my favorite part of writing.
Depending on my mood, you might find me sprawled on the couch, or in a comfy chair with my laptop. Other moods require me to be sitting at a desk or a table in order to focus.
Are any of these unusual? I don't know. I guess it depends on who you ask!
If you haven’t read the first book in The Refuge Trilogy, this is a great time. Until the end of December, the ebook is free. Enjoy! Here's the link (Smashwords)
